The ALS Prolog compiler is a powerful, optimized implementation of Prologfor SPARC-based workstation systems. It has the following features:Performance -- The ALS Prolog compiler produces native machine code andincorporates tail recursion optimization and clause indexing. The naivereverse benchmark (100 element lists) executes at high speeds.Development -- ALS Prolog is the first totally interactive, incrementalcompiler for a superset of "Edinburg Prolog." All clauses and goals areimmediately compiled and loaded, even dynamic (assertable/retractable)clauses. A four-port debugger and procedure listing operate through fastdecompilation of compiled code.Interface -- Development of real-world intelligent tools requires thesmooth integration of Prolog programs into the surrounding environment.Using the ALS foreign interface, the Prolog programmer can augment Prologprimitives by adding new built-ins written in C.
